What is Yquote ?

Yquote is a program that allows you to retrieve historical End-Of-Day quotes for virtually any stock, index, mutual fund publicly traded in USA or Canada. The data is stored in the form of ASCII file on your hard disk.

What's the difference between Yquote, HQuote and Quotelf ?

The difference lies in the data sources and data formats these programs use.

Yquote downloads End-of-Day quotes from Y!Finance for stocks, indices, mutual funds and stores the data in ASCII format. Can be used with any charting software which is capable to read more or less standard ASCII files. FAST enabled download engine
HQuote downloads delayed Intraday and EOD quotes from Quote.com for futures,stocks, indices, mutual funds and stores the data in ASCII format. Features slower downloads and limited price history. Can be used with almost any charting software capable to read more or less standard ASCII files.
Quotelf has the same download engine as Yquote, but this program interacts directly with Metastock Downloader or Omega Downloader ( from Supercharts or Tradestation packages) and provides the data in native format, which makes the downloads and subsequent analysis of data faster. What's the data format and the length of historical data?

Output format for data is ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) and the length of available from Yahoo historical data is appr. 15 years. ASCII is a standard text data file format used by many programs, including spreadsheet and word-processing programs. Unlike files in other formats, files in ASCII format are in simple text and do not contain any formatting codes or special characters. The fields in the data file produced by Yquote are comma separated and represent : Date , Time , Open , High , Low , Close , Volume of security and other optional fields. Such organization of data in ASCII file is compatible with widely spread software such as Omega Research Tradestation, SuperCharts, Metastock, Advanced Get, etc.

What's the source of historical data used in Yquote? Is it reliable?

The data source is a quite reliable free Internet server : Yahoo Finance. We find it as one of the most reliable free data sources in the net.

When today's data is available for download ?

You can start to download today's data 30 minutes after market close.

What do I need to use your software?

Two things: (1) an Internet connection, and (2) a charting program that can read ASCII data, such as Elliott Wave Analyzer II, Advanced Get 7.x, Neuroshell trader or any other program. If you have these two things, you are ready to use Yquote.

What are FAST and SLOW symbols?

FAST symbols are those which at the moment of update lack the data for latest trading session only or are already updated. All other symbols are SLOW. The speed of update depends dramatically on whether the symbol is SLOW or FAST. For example, 500 fast symbols are updating within ~ 10 sec, while the update of the same symbols when they lack the data for two previous sessions,e.g. may take as long as 10 minutes.

Do you have a free trial period? What are the limitations of a trial version?

You can enjoy free 30-day trial of Yquote. It is fully functional program with the only restriction - it will stop to work when the trial period expires and it allows you to create only one portfolio with no more than 200 symbols. This is done to limit the Internet traffic.

How do I register Yquote ?

To register Yquote you need to receive from us a small security file. Usually sent via e-mail within 4 to 12 hours after your payment is received.

Are the quotes split adjusted?

Yahoo Finance always reports split adjusted data.

How do I update software?

We always maintain backward compatibility between newer and older versions (if otherwise not specified). So you simply download a newer version of the program and install it over the older copy. No data will be lost. Make sure that during installation the older program is not running.

How do I transfer the program to a new computer?

You need to download and install the latest version of YQuote from our web site. Then copy to it the registration file regkey.reg (sent to you when you registered YQuote) and double-click on it. This will make Windows to import the encrypted registration information into Windows registry. When you run YQuote next time, it will be fully registered on your new machine.
